Japan’s Contested War Memories:
Online Appendix
This online appendix provides supplementary resources and evidence for the arguments I make in the book. The main thesis is that, contrary to the impression of “a Japan unable to discuss or address the past” that is created by a focus on controversial war nationalism in English-language media, war memories actually remain highly contested in contemporary Japan. These pages are intended to illustrate the diversity in Japanese opinion and give a flavour of war discourses in various branches of the media. Links are provided to the sites of individuals or organizations who are important participants in public war discourses in Japan.
The online bibliography contains a link to online resources referred to in the book. However, some have moved, been updated or disappeared. Where possible, links are to the English pages, but most materials are only available in Japanese.
The online appendix is organized using the same structure as the book chapters. Access the chapter/topic area using the navigation bar on the right.
Unfortunately, a few small errors and typos crept into the book (and could not be fixed for the paperback). Please consult the erratum file. I apologize for these errors. There are also a number of reviews in the press and academic journals. Please see the reviews page.
