War and Memory in Hokkaido Project

I am working on a research project called "War and Memory in Hokkaido". The project is funded by a grant from the Japanese Ministry of Education (2006-9). The aim of the project is to examine how regional history affects views of World War II history among people in Hokkaido. Papers from the early stages of the project are as follows.

1) Conference Paper: War and Memory in Hokkaido (Conference of the British Association for Japanese Studies, Norwich, March 2007).

2) Published Paper: Family, Friends and Furusato: "Home" in the Formation of Japanese War Memories

3) Forthcoming conference presentation: Memories of War Devastation (Conference of the International Oral History Association, Guadalajara, September 2008)

4) Published Paper: 'Vietnam and Iraq in Japan: Japanese and American Grassroots Peace Activism'.

My plan is to continue materials collection in preparation for a book. In time this page will become an online resource similar to the online appendix for Japan's Contested War Memories. For the time being, however, this page will remain largely undeveloped.
